San Diego, CA August 7, 2004 -- Women attorneys are not
advancing in law firms at the same rate as their male
counterparts. According to the National Association for Law
Placement, women attorneys make up 43 percent of
associates/staff attorneys in the nation's major law firms.
Women comprise only 16 percent of partners in these law
firms.
There is no consensus on why there is such a discrepancy
between the number of women associates and the number of
women partners. San Diego Career Coach and former Attorney
Camille Heenan recognized that women attorneys' concerns are
not currently being addressed in the legal community.
Because of this, she developed AttorneyCrossroads.com, an
on-line community and coaching practice for women attorneys.
"This is a serious issue within the legal profession that
isn't being adequately addressed," says Heenan, "It is
important for women attorneys to have a forum to discuss
their career frustrations and concerns. Attorney Crossroads
is a place where women attorneys can connect with one
another for support and advice."
The website includes a monthly newsletter with articles on
work-life balance and career success strategies, a
discussion forum for women attorneys, an extensive library
of career articles and resources, peer coaching groups and
individual coaching services.
"I realize that a website will not solve all of the problems
facing women attorneys," says Heenan, "but I believe that
this is a positive first step in addressing the issues women
are struggling with in their legal careers."
